AWEC's 2009 Emerging Executive (E2) Training Institute
AWEC is proud to sponsor the Third Annual Emerging Executives Training Institute to be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the Chateau Bourbon Hotel in New Orleans, LA. The Laurel Rans Scholarship will make it possible to send ten women to the training institute. After the entire day-long session, participants are invited to a special reception for graduates of the Emerging Executive Training Institute and AWEC's membership sponsored by The Keefe Group
This executive leadership training is open to women at a mid-management level in any corrections field, including but not limited to probation, parole, community corrections, jails, and prisons. Committed to a philosophy of ‘Each One Teach One,’ AWEC will utilize the rich experience of its senior membership, who are top level executive women, as featured speakers in the Emerging Executive Training Institute.
E2 participants will be welcomed by AWEC President, Francine Perretta, who will present a history of AWEC. Dr. Diane Schlacter, President/CEO of OAR Inc. in Georgia, will facilitate the session. AWEC Immediate Past-President Andie Moss will be the featured luncheon speaker. A panel of AWEC members will discuss how they managed challenging experiences in women's leadership.
An application for the E2 Training Institute is available on the Download page.
Here are some comments from a few of last year's participants:
Peggy Urtz, Iowa DOC: "It recharged me with my work, so I could go back with some renewed energy. I came away with some ideas I can share with the offenders and staff in the facility where I work.....I left there reminded and encouraged to set lofty, robust goals, something to compel me...I liked the luncheon keynote and the personal story of their journeys that the speakers told us. I also enjoyed meeting all the participants from around the country. I appreciate the women of AWEC who put on this conference and worked tirelessly over the years to promote women in corrections. Thanks for doing this."
Janet M. Perdue, Bureau of Prisons: " It was a wonderful experience. It is good to get in an environment that really addressed what women face in this business and how best to handle it. I thoroughly enjoyed the panel of speakers. Not only were they three impressive women, but their ability to tell their stories was perfect. I could have listened to them for hours."
Juli Christensen, Iowa: I appreciated the climate of the training - reciprocal in nature - rather than a lecture it was a dialogue. It was inspiring to hear the stories of such prominent women and to hear about their journeys in corrections. I was impressed with the fact they were not trying to impress, but rather spoke from their hearts and with great integrity.. Thank you for a great training opportunity."
